Beschrijving
Prunus Gisela® 3 is the most transverse rootstock within the Gisela® line and is used for very intensive cherry cultivation. This makes the rootstock particularly suitable for professional sweet cherry cultivation, especially in environments where intensive care such as irrigation, fertigation, and regular pruning are possible. The high yield per hectare with good fruit size and lower picking costs makes Gisela® 3 ideal for protected cultivation.
Key features:
Vigour: With a vigour of only 30% - 50% from a standard Prunus avium seedling, Gisela® 3 offers the strongest dwarf growth of all Gisela rootstocks, making it perfect for highly intensive orchards where small trees are desired.
Suitability for Intensive Cultivation: Due to its weak growth, this rootstock is extremely suitable for protected cultivation and intensive cherry cultivation. With proper care, high yields per hectare can be achieved despite its compact tree size.
Fruit production: Gisela® 3 has an early fertile development (precocity), which means that the trees start bearing fruit quickly. This makes it possible to achieve yields already in the early years of cultivation.
Soil and Climate Characteristics: This rootstock is ideal for optimal growing conditions with irrigation and fertirrigation, but is less suitable for cultivation on extremely fertile soils and self-fertile varieties, as overproduction can lead to smaller fruit.
Compatibility: Gisela® 3 is suitable for both sweet and sour cherries and offers excellent compatibility with strong-growing cherry varieties such as 'Regina'.
Health and Resistance characters:
Root protection: Has good resistance to bacterial diseases and other soil-related problems.
Application:
Gisela® 3 is ideally suited for intensive cherry growing on protected plots where advanced techniques such as irrigation and fertigation are used. It is perfect for growing conditions where low-growing trees are desired for optimum yield per hectare, with lower costs for picking the cherries.
