Description
This set contains four different special varieties with different fruits. Each variety is approximately 25 cm high and comes in a 9 cm pot.
Amelanchier canadensis 'Prince William' (Currants) – Also known as the currant bush, this compact shrub is a beautiful addition to your garden. With its showy blossoms in spring and edible, purple-black fruits in July, the 'Prince William' offers both aesthetic beauty and tasty rewards. This shrub prefers well-drained, lime-poor soil and can reach a height of 2 to 3 metres. Pruning old branches after flowering or in February promotes healthy growth and fruit set.
Rubus phoenicolasius (Japanese Wineberry) – Originating in Northern China, the Japanese Wineberry is an intriguing fruit shrub that offers both visual and culinary delight. The striking, bright red fruits are deliciously sweet and ready to be harvested from July to October. In addition to the fruits, the shrub adorns itself with beautiful plumes of white flowers in the summer. This versatile shrub thrives best in a sunny location and in humus-rich soil. With its climbing properties, the Japanese Wineberry can also be used as a climber, making it versatile in garden design. The shrub can reach a height of 2 to 3 meters and is ideal for use as a hedge along a fence.
Morus Bomb Shin Tso (Mulberry) – The Shin Tso is a hidden gem in the world of fruit trees. This compact mulberry shrub reaches a height of about 3 to 4 meters. In July, the Shin Tso proudly presents its fairly large, exceptionally tasty fruits. Although the yield is not overwhelming, this is more than compensated for by the excellent taste. The leaves of the tree are beautifully shiny and offer a beautiful contrast. The tree follows its own rhythm, shedding its leaves late in the season and awakening early in spring. The growth of the Shin Tso takes on a more erratic character as the tree gets older, thanks to the elastic wood. Its flowering is subtle, but attracts various insects, which contributes to a healthy ecosystem. The berry of the Morus is a real delight – blackberry-shaped, sweet and infused with aroma. In addition to eating it fresh, the fruit is ideal for making juice, drying and making jam. The Morus is known as a superfood because of its high content of vitamins, minerals and fiber. A sheltered spot in full sun or partial shade is ideal for the Shin Tso. Although the tree needs to be protected from frost in the first few years, it can later tolerate temperatures down to -15 degrees Celsius. (In the winter of 2020 it even withstood -17 degrees Celsius!) The Shin Tso belongs to the same family as the fig and originates from China.
Aronia prunifolia 'Viking' (Chokeberry) – The 'Viking' is an excellent choice for a sunny or semi-shaded garden. This plant blooms in May with white-pink, fragrant flowers that develop into aubergine-black berries with many nutrients. The berries have a tart taste, but are appreciated by birds and can be processed into juice, jelly or jam. The leaves change colour in the autumn to a beautiful colour combination of yellow, red and purple. Aronia prunifolia 'Viking' is self-pollinating, winter-hardy and deciduous. It is important to place the plant in a soil type that is not too heavy and avoid planting in loess or clay. Maintenance of the Chokeberry consists of removing old and dried-out branches in the spring, so that new shoots get more space and light.
These four special berry bushes add tasty fruit to your garden, but also offer beauty and versatility. Perfect for sunny to semi-shady spots. Planting instructions included.
