Passiflora Edulis 'Frederik', better known as Passion fruit, is a beautiful and easy climbing plant that adds a tropical touch to your garden or terrace. This set of 4 plants, delivered in 9 cm pots and with a height of 30-45 cm, is native to northern Argentina and popular in warm areas for its delicious fruits. Already in the first year after flowering, you can enjoy dark purple passion fruit that tastes fresh and sweet and sour - perfect for juice, desserts or just as is. But this plant is more than just fruit: from July to September, it blooms large, white flowers with purple and blue stripes, giving your garden a cheerful look. The fruits follow after that, usually from September to October.
This Passiflora is evergreen, so it keeps its fresh green leaves all year round. It is a fast grower that attaches itself and easily covers a trellis, fence or wall - it can grow up to 3 to 4 metres tall! Put it in a pot on your terrace and it feels at home anywhere. It grows vigorously and makes lots of flowers, which also makes it a nice ornamental plant. The leaves are large and glossy, and together with the flowers and fruits, it is a plant that really stands out.
In terms of care, it is simple: it likes a sunny spot with some shade and slightly moist soil that lets water through well. Water it occasionally, especially in dry periods, and it will do the rest. It needs no special nutrition and will grow in almost any type of soil. Be careful though: the plant is toxic to pets, so keep it away from them. This Passiflora is not completely hardy, so in cold weather it is better to put it inside or protect it, in a greenhouse in the open ground. An easy plant that rewards you with flowers as well as delicious fruit!
