The Shin Tso Mulberry is a hidden gem, prized by connoisseurs for its exceptionally aromatic and delicious tasting fruits. This relatively compact variety reaches a height of around 3 meters.
In July, the Shin Tso shows off its fairly large, exceptionally tasty fruits. Although the yield is not overwhelming, this is more than compensated for by the excellent taste. The leaves of the tree are beautifully shiny and offer a nice contrast. The tree follows its own rhythm, dropping its leaves late in the season and awakening early in the spring.
The growth of the Shin Tso becomes more erratic as the tree ages, thanks to its elastic wood. Its flowering is subtle, but attracts various insects, which contributes to a healthy ecosystem.
The berry of the Morus is a real delight – blackberry-shaped, sweet and a good aroma. In addition to eating it fresh, the fruit is excellent for juicing, drying and making jam.
The Morus is known as a superfood because of its high content of vitamins, minerals and fibers.
Location: A sheltered spot in full sun or partial shade is ideal for the Shin Tso. Although the tree needs to be protected from frost in the first few years, it can later tolerate temperatures down to -15 degrees Celsius.
Related to the fig, native to China.
