This set contains four different fig varieties: Dalmatia, Francesca, Brown Turkey and Ronde de Bordeaux. Each fig plant is 25 cm high and comes in a 9 cm pot.
Ficus carica 'Dalmatia': This fig tree, belonging to the Moraceae family, is also known as the Common Fig. It can grow up to 3 meters high and has large, dark green leaves. Flowering takes place in April and May, followed by the ripening of the large fruits in September. These have a green-yellow skin and juicy red flesh. The ideal location is sunny and warm, with well-drained soil. The Ficus carica 'Dalmatié' is reasonably hardy down to -12°C, but protection from extreme weather conditions is recommended.
Ficus Carica 'Francesca': This variety bears fairly large, green-yellow fruits with light red flesh that tastes deliciously sweet. They are ripe for harvesting in September - October and can be eaten fresh or processed, for example into jam. The location is sunny, and they can be kept in a tub, open ground or greenhouse. The plant is winter hardy to -15 degrees Celsius. Pruning is done at the end of November or beginning of December, after the leaves have fallen.
Fig (Ficus carica 'Brown Turkey'): Known as the best fig variety, this fig produces medium-sized fruits with dark red flesh. Suitable for garden, greenhouse or tub and thrives best in a sunny spot. Fairly winter hardy to -15 degrees Celsius, with harvest time in September - October. The plant loses its leaves in winter.
Ficus carica 'Ronde de Bordeaux': This variety is characterized by decorative deeply incised leaves and produces fairly small but delicious brown-black fruits with juicy, sweet red flesh. They ripen early from August and the yield is generous. The plant is self-pollinating and thrives best in a well-drained soil in a warm sunny location. Winter hardy to -12/-15°C. Prune dead branches in spring to 1 eye. In summer the young shoots can be shortened slightly.
This set of four fig plants provides a varied and tasty addition to your garden.
