The Goji berry, also known as Boksdoorn (Lycium barbarum), is a colorful shrub that produces beautiful berries throughout the summer and fall. These berries are true treasure chests full of vitamins and antioxidants, making them not only tasty but also very healthy. Although this shrub is a thorny plant, this makes it ideal for forming an impenetrable hedge.
The Goji berry is a versatile addition to both patios and open ground, growing to a maximum height of 2 metres. It is self-pollinating, meaning you don’t need an extra pollinator to ensure a good harvest. The fruits have a striking orange-red colour and a refreshing currant flavour. When delivered, including pot, the height of the plant is between 25 and 30 cm, with a pot size of 9 cm. The Goji berry will reward your garden with both beauty and health.
The goji berry is also a robust and hardy shrub that thrives on poor soils and defies sea winds. Originally from China, near the Himalayas and Tibet, the elongated leaves unfold in spring and purple flowers appear on the hanging one-year-old wood during flowering.
After flowering, elongated, oval fruits form that are green at first but turn a beautiful orange-red when ripe. These berries are particularly medicinal and contain a rich mix of vitamins, carotene, amino acids, rutin and polysaccharides. In addition to these properties, they are also delicious in taste. They can help with a variety of complaints, from reduced vision to respiratory diseases and dizziness. According to the Chinese, regular consumption of the Goji berry helps to maintain youthfulness. You can make jam, juice or jelly from them, dry them into currants or even freeze them for later consumption
