Description
Sarcococca confusa, also known as the Meatberry, is an evergreen shrub known for its wonderfully fragrant flowers. Although this shrub can eventually reach a considerable size, it does not grow very fast compared to other types of Sarcococca. Sarcococca's fragrance is truly unsurpassed. After 10 years, this shrub can reach a height of about 100 cm. The flowers have a beautiful white colour and bloom from February to March. This plant is well hardy, meaning it can withstand cold weather well.
What makes Sarcococca confusa so special is that it stays beautifully green all year round. In winter, it surprises with its sweet-smelling, creamy-white flowers, which later develop into non-edible berries. Although not immediately eye-catching, this shrub is definitely an asset to any garden. It makes an excellent combination with perennials or shrubs that lose their leaves in winter or die above ground.
