Salvia Nemorosa 'Schneehügel', also known as Sage or 'Snowhill', is a strong and easy perennial that adds a fresh touch to your garden. From June to August, it blooms with pretty, pure white flower spikes rising above the dark green, oblong leaves. The leaves smell nicely aromatic and the plant grows compact and sturdy to about 40-50 cm high. Cut it back after the first flowering, and it often produces an extra round of flowers in autumn. A simple trick for longer enjoyment!
This sage prefers full sun and grows well in almost any soil, as long as it is waterlogged. It can withstand drought, salty sea breezes and some dirty air, so it also does fine in coastal gardens. It loses its leaves in winter, but it is well hardy and comes back fresh in spring. Bees and butterflies love its flowers, making your garden nice and lively. You can even use it as a small leading shrub along a path or in a pot.
'Schneehügel' combines beautifully with other sage varieties, such as the blue or pink varieties, but also blends well with all kinds of flowering plants in a border. Place it in a sunny spot and it will provide a bright, white accent colour to brighten up your garden. It requires little care: a sunny spot and occasional pruning are enough. A reliable and cheerful plant for every type of garden!
