The Pyrus pyrifolia 'Hosui' is a beautiful Nashi pear, loved for its large, golden-brown-orange fruits with a smooth, thin skin. The juicy and crunchy flesh has a rich, sweet flavor with subtle hints of pear, apple and melon. This versatile pear is perfect for eating fresh, but also ideal for use in salads, desserts or for pickling.
The 'Hosui' blooms profusely in April with white flowers that attract bees and bumblebees. Although this variety is not self-pollinating, it gives a richer harvest when pollinated by other Nashi pear varieties such as the 'Kosui' or 'Shinseiki'. For optimal fruit size and taste, it is advisable to thin the fruits in June. The harvest starts as early as August, so you can enjoy these delicious pears early.
The tree is compact and reaches a height of 3 to 5 meters. It is not very susceptible to diseases and tolerates cold spring conditions well. The 'Hosui' grows best in a sunny location in well-drained, fertile soil. This Nashi pear originally comes from Japan, where it has been valued for centuries as a healthy and tasty fruit.
