Beschrijving
The Prunus x cistena, also known as ornamental plum, is a beautiful shrub that blooms abundantly in April-May with light pink single flowers. The leaves of this shrub are pointed, serrated, with a striking red color when emerging, which gradually changes to a deep purple during the summer and autumn. This cultivar is a cross between Prunus cerasifera and Prunus pumila, and is known for its striking leaf color and graceful flowers.
With a modest height of approximately 200 cm, the Prunus x cistena fits well in various garden environments. During the flowering period, white-pink flowers appear, and occasionally plum-like fruits can develop. This shrub is best used as a solitary in a somewhat larger border, but can also be used as a hedge. In the autumn, the leaves get a deeper purple colour before they fall off.
The Prunus x cistena is tolerant of sea wind and air pollution, and is very winter hardy. It is a densely branched shrub that grows to about 2 meters high. The soil type is not very critical, as long as the drainage is good. With its striking leaf color and beautiful flowers, the ornamental plum is a beautiful addition to any garden.
