Description
The Prunus GF 677 is a versatile and vigorous rootstock developed by the INRA in France. This rootstock is ideal for peach, almond, plum and apricot and is characterized by a high growth vigour that amounts to 100% to 105% of the standard. The rootstock is suitable for different soil types and can perform well in both calcareous and poor soils, as well as in sloping or unobstructed areas.
Key features:
Growth: Prunus GF 677 induces high vitality, which promotes rapid growth. It is ideal for production conditions that require vigorous growth.
Soil and Climate Preference: This rootstock performs well in a variety of soil types, including calcareous and poor soils. It is suitable for areas with poor irrigation and sloping plots, but requires well-drained soils to prevent asphyxia.
Applications: Especially suitable for peach, almond and plum. Due to its high productivity and versatility it is also increasingly used for apricot with an intermediate variety.
Resistance and Health:
Disease resistance: Prunus GF 677 shows good resistance to Plumpoxvirus/Sharka and has a fair resistance to root-knot nematodes, ring nematodes and root lesion nematodes. However, it is very susceptible to Phytophthora, bacterial canker, crown rot and honey/oak root rot.
Root suckers: The rootstock shows few root suckers, which contributes to a healthy root structure.
Replanting complex: Prunus GF 677 has a moderate tolerance to replanting diseases, making it suitable for situations where replanting is required.
Suitability:
The Prunus GF 677 is an excellent choice for gardens and orchards with varying soil conditions, and is particularly suited to peach and almond production in more difficult or dry areas. Its high productivity and high tolerance for poor and chalky soils make it a popular choice for both commercial cultivation and smaller agricultural applications.
