Beschrijving
The Prunus domestica 'Reine Claude Verte' is a classic plum tree with a rich history and an excellent reputation for its honey-sweet fruits. With its attractive white blossoms in spring and juicy light green plums in summer, this tree is an asset to any garden.
Fruit
The plums of the 'Reine Claude Verte' are small, round and have a light green skin. The flesh is greenish yellow, juicy, firm and deliciously aromatic with a honey-sweet taste. These plums are ideal for direct consumption, but also perfectly suitable for compote, juice or preserves. The harvest time is August.
Flowering and pollination
In April and May the tree adorns itself with an abundance of white, slightly fragrant flowers. Since this variety is not self-pollinating, it is necessary to plant another plum tree nearby for good fruit bearing. Suitable pollinators are:
- Beauty of Louvain
- Opal
- Queen Claude d'Althan
- Victoria
Growth and care
The tree grows to a height of 4-6 meters with a slightly irregular, rounded crown. As a young tree it has a more upright growth habit, but over time the crown becomes wider. It grows best in a sunny location in well-drained soil. The low trunk size makes it easy to pick the plums without a ladder.
