Beschrijving
The Prunus domestica 'Mirabelle de Nancy' is an ornamental plum tree that is loved for its beautiful blossom and sweet, golden-yellow fruits. This tree combines an ornamental appearance with a delicious harvest, making it ideal for both the ornamental garden and the orchard.
Fruit
The plums of 'Mirabelle de Nancy' are small, round and golden yellow with delicate red dots. The flesh is juicy, firm and sweet with a slightly sugary taste. The stone comes off easily, which makes the plums perfect for direct consumption, jams, compotes and pies. The harvest takes place in mid august, after which the fruits have a short shelf life.
Flowering and pollination
In April the tree adorns itself with an abundance of white, slightly fragrant blossoms. This plum tree is self-pollinating, but produces a larger harvest when cross-pollinated with another plum tree, such as:
- Housewarming
- Queen Claude d'Althan
Growth and care
The tree grows to a height of 4-6 metres and has a dense, bushy crown. The irregular shape and soft blossom make it an attractive appearance in the garden. The 'Mirabelle de Nancy' has few demands on pruning in the first few years and grows best in a sunny location with well-drained soil.
