Primula denticulata 'Lilac', also known as Keyflower or Bullet primrose, is a cheerful and easy perennial that brightens up your garden in spring. From late March to May, it blooms with pretty, lilac flowers that together form a round ball at the end of long, straight stems. The flowers are slightly fragrant and are also perfect for picking as cut flowers. The plant grows about 15-25 cm high and has green leaves that grow neatly in a rosette.
This Key Flower prefers sun or semi-shade, but if the soil is not moist enough, it is better to put it in a more shady spot. It likes cool, humus-rich soil that lets water through well and doesn't get too dry - ideal for near the edge of a pond or in a border. Plant it 25 cm apart (about 24 per square metre) for a nice, full effect. It combines well with other spring flowers such as daffodils or tulips, but also with grasses or planters on your terrace.
In terms of care, it does not require much: keep the soil moderately moist and cut away the old stems after flowering to keep it fresh. It is completely hardy, so there is no need to worry about cold. This 'Lilac' brings a soft, lilac colour and a cosy atmosphere to your garden, perfect for a simple spring boost!
