Description
Ceanothus thyrsiflorus var. repens is a creeping American lilac or autumn lilac. It is a low-growing species whose upright blue and fragrant flowers bloom in the period May-June. A long-flowering shrub gives a sea of blue flowers in the garden and is also evergreen in the winter! It is a good nectar plant for useful insects such as bees and butterflies.
Ceanothus 'Puget Blue' is an evergreen ornamental shrub. It grows compact and bushy and blooms with clusters of blue flowers. The leaves are shiny and green. This plant is also sometimes trained up against a wall. Can be pruned in the spring.
Both plants look very similar, and are difficult to distinguish at first.
