The Ficus carica 'Panachée' Fig Tree is a special addition to any garden. This fig tree produces delicious fruits with a delectably sweet taste, perfect for immediate enjoyment. The fruits ripen early, as early as August, and have an attractive green colour with vertical pale yellow stripes, making them a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds.
Before the onset of winter, present green fruits can be picked as they will not survive the winter. In winter, the soil around the tree is coated with bark to protect the roots from frost. If the fig tree is kept in a tub, it should be winterised frost-free to prevent the roots from freezing.
Famous for its striped fruits, Ficus carica 'Panachée' is also known as the Tiger Fig. This fig tree not only adds flavour to the garden, but also ornamental value because of the striking striped appearance of its fruits. Although not completely hardy, this fig may need protection from the cold in more severe winters and on young plants.
