Description
Meet the Diospyrus Kaki 'Duo', a unique tree with two different varieties: the 'Jiro' and the 'Cioccolatino'. The 'Jiro' is a hardy and self-pollinating tree with delicious fruits. Flowering occurs in May and the fruits ripen in November. The sweet fruits have notes of apricot without a sour aftertaste and ripen when all the leaves have already fallen from the tree.
The 'Cioccolatino' variety of Diospyrus Kaki, also known as Sharon fruit, is known for its very sweet flesh. The fruits are medium-sized, round in shape and have an orange skin. Compared to other persimmon varieties, they ripen early in autumn, usually in September - October. The blossom appears around the first week of June. This variety has average vigour, average branching and good production.
This beautiful tree with graceful leaves is a gem for the (edible) garden and prefers a shady and warm spot in full sun in all permeable good soils. Protect the tree from late night frosts in spring in the first few years and from severe frosts in winter.
Diospyrus Kaki 'Duo' is partially hardy as an exotic fruit tree. The young shoots can sometimes freeze after a hard frost, but generally the tree can tolerate winter well.
