The Corylus avellana 'Scooter', also known as the whirlwind hazel, is a smaller variety of the Corylus avellana 'Contorta' (hazel). This cultivar grows slower and develops with twisted branches, which gives it a unique appearance. After about 10 years, this hazel reaches a height of about 1 to 1.25 meters.
In the period from February to April, the Corylus avellana 'Scooter' shows off striking yellow catkins, which bring an early spring atmosphere to the garden. The leaves of this hazel undergo a beautiful autumn colouring, which makes it visually attractive all year round.
One of the most striking features of this hazel is the edible fruits that ripen in September. These fruits have a delicious, aromatic, nutty flavour and add a unique culinary element to the garden experience.
