Description

The Pyrus communis 'Conference is a popular and versatile pear tree that produces delicious, juicy hand pears. Recognised by its slender shape and distinctive sweet taste, this pear is loved in many gardens and is ideal for both fresh consumption and storage. In April, the tree graces with beautiful white blossom, followed by the harvestable pears in September.

Features:

  • Fruit and Flavour: The Conference pear has a distinctive slender shape and a fresh green skin with brown tones on the underside. The flesh is juicy and sweet, ideal for eating straight from the tree or storing. The firm skin allows the pears to keep well for several months when stored in a cool place.
  • Flowering and Harvest: The tree blooms in April with fragrant, white blossom, which also makes it an ornamental addition to the garden. The pears can be picked from the end of September.
  • Self-pollinating: This pear tree is self-pollinating, meaning it does not need another pear tree to bear fruit. However, for higher yields, it is possible to plant pollinators such as Beurre Hardy or Doyenne du Comice nearby.

Care and Pitch:

  • Location: The Conference tree prefers a sunny spot so that the fruit can ripen optimally. This tree grows in virtually all soils, provided the soil is well-drained and nutritious.
  • Maintenance: This variety is easy to maintain and highly resistant to disease. The tree can be pruned to keep it compact and is also suitable for smaller gardens due to its slow, modest growth.
  • Hardiness: This pear tree withstands cold temperatures well and can be planted in Dutch gardens just fine.
